Asian Bridge Graduate Fellow

The Center for Asia Pacific Studies invites current USF graduate students from all fields to apply for the Asia Bridge Fellows Program. Asia Bridge Fellows will research vital issues in the Asia Pacific region, both historical and contemporary. Over the course of the academic year, fellows will receive training, expert research guidance, and hands-on-experience organizing an on-campus event. They will also form part of a lively community of scholars who are passionate about Asia. Fellows who complete the program will also receive a $500 cash award.

The Center is seeking applications from current USF graduate students who are interested in conducting research about one of the center’s five main areas of concentration (China, Japan, Korea, India, or the Philippines), writing a research paper, and gaining experience presenting in academic settings. Up to six fellows will be selected.

Students will meet in-person every two weeks throughout the semester. Meetings are tentatively scheduled for 3-5pm on Wednesdays on Hilltop campus, subject to availability.

    • Research workshops on conducting research, writing, and public speaking
    • Mentoring from academics in the field of Asia Pacific Studies through office hours and workshops
    • Producing a 12-15-page research article
    • Researching the process of creating successful submissions to academic publications and the current state of the field in academic journals & presses
    • Researching the process of producing conference papers & attending conferences
    • Attending community-building events to interact with like-minded students and scholars
    • Forming an Events Committee to plan a Center event 
    • $500 award for those who complete all of the requirements for the program

      • Copy of your resume (including your field, thesis title (if applicable), and expected date of graduation)
      • Copy of your unofficial transcript
      • Writing sample submission.
