The Asia Bridge Junior Fellowship offered unparalleled opportunities to explore my passion for understanding belonging and cultural activism amidst gentrification. Working alongside passionate mentors truly makes a difference—I highly recommend taking the leap and applying.

Asia Bridge Junior Fellow

Through the Center’s Asia Bridge Fellow Program, we’re training undergraduates in the essentials of researching issues vital for our understanding of the Asia Pacific both historically and today. Fellows will emerge from the 9-month long program with skills that will help them succeed in their future careers--skills like research, data analysis, essay and report writing, and public speaking. They will also become part of a community of students and scholars that share a passion for Asia.

Each year, the center seeks applications from current USF undergraduates who are interested in conducting research about one of the center’s five main areas of concentration (China, Japan, Korea, India or the Philippines), writing a research paper, and gaining experience presenting in academic settings. From this pool of applicants, the center selects up to six fellows.

Fellows will meet every two weeks. Meetings are tentatively scheduled for Tuesdays from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm. Fellows are also invited to participate in community-building events throughout the semester.

    • Research workshops on conducting research, writing, and public speaking
    • Mentoring from academics in the field of Asia Pacific Studies through office hours and workshops
    • Produce a 12-15-page paper to use as a writing sample for future employment and graduate school applications
    • Community building events to interact with students and scholars with similar interests
    • Event management experience from planning a center event
    • $500 award for those who complete all of the requirements for the program
  • Current USF undergraduate (entering sophomore, junior, or senior year)

  • Deadline: September 9th, 11:59 pm PT

The application period opens the first day of the fall semester.
