Pope Leo XIV is the first Pope from the United States and chose his papal name to recall Pope Leo XIII, who founded modern Catholic social teaching in response to the industrial revolution. Pope Leo XIV has already said that he sees artificial intelligence as the next "industrial revolution," thus creating much buzz in Catholic and tech circles. But starting under Pope Francis, the Vatican has been thinking about ethical and social issues related to AI for years, so Pope Leo's efforts are not completely new. Join Dr. Brian Green, a scholar who has been working with the Vatican on its AI efforts, as he explains why the Vatican is interested in AI, how Catholic social teaching is Catholic technology teaching, and what it all has to do with the current opportunity and challenge of AI use in university education.
