Pope Leo XIV is the first Pope from the United States and chose his papal name to recall Pope Leo XIII, who founded modern Catholic social teaching in response to the industrial revolution. Pope Leo XIV has already said that he sees artificial intelligence as the next "industrial revolution," thus creating much buzz in Catholic and tech circles. But starting under Pope Francis, the Vatican has been thinking about ethical and social issues related to AI for years, so Pope Leo's efforts are not completely new.
