Biography

Debbie first came to work at the Library in 1987 as a part-time Periodicals Library Assistant. Shortly after receiving her MLIS with Archives Administration emphasis from UC Berkeley in 1993, Debbie left USF to work as an Archivist for Buddhist Churches of America. Five years later, Debbie returned to USF and Gleeson Library as a Periodicals/Reference Librarian.

During the following twenty-one years, Debbie contributed in many ways to the University Library's success and reputation for excellent service. As Periodicals/Reference Librarian, she helped the Library transition into the "digital age" as priorities shifted from a print-only environment to electronic journal collections and full-text databases. This included her leadership in our early understanding of digital licensing and contractual agreements with vendors.  In addition, as Periodicals Librarian for thirteen years, Debbie managed a public services desk on the second floor of Geschke and provided research support to students and faculty.

In 2016, Debbie was appointed University Archivist and while in that role for three years up to her retirement, she successfully increased the role of Archives as an important resource for the University. Her accomplishments included working with Alan Ziajka, Associate Vice-Provost and University Historian, on research for his many reports; providing access to collections and scanning photographs for Athletics to support the new Hall of Fame exhibit at Memorial Gym; assisting Joanna B. Gallegos with research and photos for her book, A College on the Hill, outlining the history of San Francisco College for Women/Lone Mountain College; working with filmmakers on the production of the documentary, "From the Ripple Tank," about the USF College Players theater group; and engaging in outreach activities to ensure collections and/or memorabilia pertaining to USF history are transferred to the Archives for the researcher of the future.
