Liesel Buchner
Adjunct Professor
Biography
Liesel Buchner’s interest in nursing began when she was fifteen in the Freestate of South Africa. Immediately following high school she began a post-secondary education in an undergraduate nursing program. There she found her passion in critical care. That passion spurred her on to pursue a graduate degree in critical care nursing. About 15 years ago, a shortage of critical care nurses in the United States allowed her family to immigrate to the US. She accepted a job in an underserved area of California. She took a front line role, which was always satisfying to her; though she found a desire to improve care, quality, and safety on a broader scale via leadership positions.
Her current position is the Cardiovascular Service line Director for the Greater Sacramento Area for Kaiser Permanente Northern California and although her career focus and passion has shifted over the years, she is equally passionate about her current work, and it has created an undeniable drive to enhance her knowledge and expertise in nursing leadership overall.
