Koret Health & Recreation Center
Indoor Swimming Pool
Pool Information
Pool average temperature: 81.5° (Range 80°-82°, 79° for swim meets)
Lap Swim
Lap lanes will be open during all pool hours, although the number of lanes available will vary depending on other programs in progress, (i.e., during all swim lesson programs the shallow lanes will be closed to anyone other than those enrolled in the lessons). The pool will have limited lanes from 4-6 p.m., Monday-Friday due to swim team practices and other activities.
Circle swimming is mandatory during crowded times. It is recommended to check our Pool Lane Schedule before each visit to avoid lane closures and events.
Children 12 years of age or older, who are competent lap swimmers, may lap swim when accompanied in the pool area by a supervising adult.
Shallow Lane
There is only ONE shallow lane at the Koret Center pool. This lane is often blocked for swim lessons, trainings, or programs. Please take note if you plan to use this lane. There is a white board updated weekly (in between locker rooms on the pool deck) with lane closures in addition to the lap pool schedule.
Courses
Short Course
25 yards = 1 length
71 lengths = 1 mile
Long Course
For Summer 2024, long course set up will run from July 2 - August 1. During this time, there will be 9 - 50yd lanes available when teams are not practicing. The shallow lane will still be available when private lessons are not in session.
50 yards = 1 length
35 lengths = 1 mile
*Long course set up is NOT Olympic size. The shallow end is open for use, so we have a 50 YARD not 50 meter set up.
Masters Swimming
Participants of the Masters Swim Team must complete a tryout* with the coach, register with U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) and compete in two Pacific Masters Championship Meets annually. You must be registered with USMS on the USF club before you can participate in practices.
*At this time the Masters Swim Team has paused accepting new members as the team is at maximum capacity. You may email aquatics@usfca.edu to be put on a waiting list to be notified when tryouts open again.
Try-outs consist of a warm up, swimming 200 yards freestyle without stopping, and a timed 100-yard freestyle to help place you in a lane with swimmers of similar ability. Following a successful tryout, an offer letter will be sent to your email with instructions on how to purchase your membership online.
The Koret Heath & Recreation Center provides kickboards and pull buoys. Swimmers should bring their own snorkel, hand paddles (only if your shoulders can handle them), and training fins (workout fins that extend no more than 4 inches past toes). Unsecured storage bins are available on the pool deck for your equipment. Please label your equipment and mesh storage bag.

Meet our Swim Instructors

Courtney (she/her) loves helping people on their swim journey and finds it absolutely fulfilling. She has been helping people learn to swim for 5+ years now. She has worked at swim academies for 5 years and taught independently for 4 years all over the Bay Area. She has been swimming since she was 5 and has always been involved in water activities: swim lessons, Jr Lifeguarding, high school swim team, water polo, & swim instruction! Courtney has created a unique learn-to-swim curriculum that has been proven to produce great swimmers that have little to no experience in the water. She is currently attending SFSU for a BA in Women & Gender Studies with a certificate in Holistic Health.
Courtney enjoys teaching students of all ages and swim experience but finds teaching those with 0 experience is her greatest strength. She specializes in teaching from scratch and helping people with past traumatic experiences in the water. She believes that swimming is a personal journey where she can lend a helping hand to anyone in order to overcome their fears of the water. -
Kathleen (she/her) has been swimming with USF Masters since August 2011. She swam competitively throughout her childhood and college, and then took a "break" that lasted about 30 years. One thing she loves about participating as an adult is the chance to learn more about the technical, physical and mental aspects of the sport. She was especially inspired after attending the Intensive Workshop in Walnut Creek (which she would recommend highly). Ever since then, she has been looking for ways to learn more, and to take that knowledge and help other improve. This year she became a certified US Masters Coach, and have begun assisting Coach Val and Aquatic Director, Clare Rudd with the team. She looks forward to working with each of you toward achieving your swimming goals! She coaches adults & high level swim team only.
-
Serina (she/her) has been swimming since before she could walk, lifeguarding for 14 years, and teaching swim lessons for just as long. She brings a unique experience of mastering the competitive swimming strokes as an adult, through the City College of San Francisco swim program, where they trained and recruited women to join their new team in 2011. Since then it has become a meticulous endeavor to continuously improve on her strokes and others. She is American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certified and presses upon the importance of learning safety in water above all else. She believes that once you feel safe in the water, other things will fall into place. She has led parent-toddler swim lessons, pre-school levels, all six Red Cross learn-to-swim levels, pre-swim team classes, adult learn-to-swim classes as well as swim coaching youth and Masters. She enjoys teaching all types of swimmers, improving upon teaching strategies for the varying challenges that each level can have. She has continued to teach swim lessons for the joy that comes with mastering something new, while addressing the range of concerns, frustrations, and uncertainty that is inevitable with all swimmers, at all levels. She is excited to meet you and get to know your goals for your swimming future!

Isela (she/her) grew up in Southern California where every birthday party was a pool party and every other weekend, she and her family were on a boat in the middle of a lake or river. Consequently, her favorite sport and activity quickly became swimming. Her philosophy with swim instruction is helping children and adults of all ages find the confidence to push themselves just a little bit more, so that they too can enjoy all that swimming has to offer. She has 3+ years of swim instruction experience and enjoys helping people with no experience learn how to swim and be comfortable in the water. She also has experience teaching the different strokes, and can help adults learn these strokes to take up swimming as an enjoyable hobby or exercise that is easy on the body. She has experience with Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy, and knows that water play can be a stimulating activity for children on the spectrum and loves to see these clients enjoy their time in the water as well. Teaching is something that she thoroughly enjoys and she strives to center the curriculum around the client’s needs and makes sure every lesson gets them one step closer to achieving their swim goals.

Coach Angel (He/Him) has been swimming competitively since the age of 7. Born and raised in sunny Southern California, he trained and competed with Beach Cities Swimming where he swam on their Sectional team. As an age group swimmer, Angel specialized in butterfly and breaststroke events. As Angel started to attend the University of San Francisco, he maintained his love for swimming by coaching the Koret Youth Swim Team. He finds joy in providing young swimmers the knowledge, technique, and discipline to be the best athletes they can be, just as his coaches did for him as a club swimmer. He will graduate with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the Spring of 2025.

Coach Veronika (she/her) is from San Diego, CA and has been an athlete all her life. After graduating high school, she attended Queens University of Charlotte and competed on both the NCAA triathlon and swim teams while earning her Bachelor's in International Studies. She received the opportunity to be a part of the national team that acquired its 5th national championship in triathlon as well as a part of the swim team, who also had 5 NCAA DII titles to their name. After graduating early, she decided to pursue a Master's in International Development and Economics at the University of San Francisco and compete on the DI NCAA Triathlon team while continuing to swim competitively during breaks from school.
During summers and throughout a gap year after graduating from Queens, Veronika returned to her club swim team to help coach the team's youngest swimmers. She is passionate about developing swimmers with a priority of having fun and encouraging companionship between teammates. She credits her success and longevity in sports to coaches who placed a strong emphasis on balance and teammates who showed her sports were about much more than the competition, and hopes to use her position as a coach to pass that mindset to the next generation of athletes.
