Kathleen Kane
Faculty Emeritus
Biography
Professor Kathleen Kane's forward-thinking research and application of experiential learning techniques is helping develop more effective and conscientious leadership within business communities and organizations. Through such innovative tools as The Behavioral Matrix and the Samurai Game, she helps students better assess their own leadership instincts and abilities. Dr. Kane has won a number of awards for her values-oriented curriculum, her progressive educational research leading to work as a much-sought-after organizational consultant and distinguished international speaker.
Dr. Kane examines how factors such as race and gender play a part in establishing the norms of respect in business settings. By asking her students to explore their own values and biases, she helps them nurture a greater awareness of the effects these may have in the work environment. She believes strongly that faith and reason are complementary resources in the creation of productive business cultures. Encouraging students - and the heads of organizations she advises - to 'lead from the heart', Professor Kane hopes to contribute to a new leadership paradigm, one that approaches management and decision-making from a more emotionally-focused and socially conscious standpoint.
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Mills College in Oakland, Professor Kane went on to obtain her M.A. and Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology and Behavior from Claremont Graduate University in Southern California. Her affection for the deeply imbedded values of the Bay Area - such as acceptance, compassion and action for social justice - have been a springboard for much of Dr. Kane's admired research and service to academic communities and organizational leadership teams.
