4 Fun Facts About USF’s Celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Month
June is a month filled with vibrant colors, love, and pride as people around the world celebrate Pride month with community events and parades.
San Francisco’s Pride parade occurred on Sunday, June 25 and the University’s LGBTQ+ Faculty/Staff Caucus and Pride Alumni Board organized a contingent for the march.
Donning colorful attire and waving rainbow flags, the contingent marched through the streets of San Francisco, symbolizing the university’s unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community. Their presence served as a reminder of the importance of celebrating, honoring, and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community while standing in solidarity with those who have faced discrimination and injustice.
Four Facts about USF at Pride 2023:
1. Let Love Bloom
The LGBTQ+ Caucus gave out 1000 Pride-themed seed packets to the crowd to grow their own wildflowers.
2. From San Francisco to Los Angeles
Over 250 USF alumni, students, faculty, staff, and families registered to march in a Pride Parade this year in San Francisco or Los Angeles.
3. Uniting Community
This year, USF hosted local non-profit organization Openhouse to prepare for the Pride Parade at 101 Howard. Openhouse enables San Francisco Bay Area LGBTQ+ seniors to overcome the unique challenges they face as they age by providing housing, direct services and community programs.
The USF contingent was also joined by members of the St. Ignatius parish community.
4. Inspired to Expand
USF is happy to introduce the SOM Pride Alliance––a new student organization at the School of Management aimed at supporting LGBTQIA+ students and their allies.
It was a day filled with belonging that will be cherished by the university’s LGBTQ+ community for years to come.
