Emily Daza ’23: Hilltop Campus to Finance Career

by Mahelet Aklilu, Office of Development Communications

From founding the USFCA Craft Club to graduating top of her class, Emily Daza made her mark at the University of San Francisco. Daza’s leadership and community involvement prepared her to take on the finance industry.

Thriving through Community and Mentorship

Immediately upon arriving at the Hilltop, Daza involved herself in the St. Ignatius Institute living-learning community and the Honors College while pursuing a double major in finance and management with a minor in economics. Her involvement extended beyond academics — she joined Alpha Sigma Nu, Beta Gamma Sigma, the Financial Management Association, and she co-founded the USFCA Craft Club where she combined her passion for business with creativity.

Although Daza’s time as an undergraduate at USF is over, she remains committed to supporting students who come after her. Daza participated in the Alumni Mentor Program, guiding two business students through their academic and career journeys. One of her mentees has gone on to land an internship at Oracle as a financial analyst.

Daza now engages with the alumni community, participating in the Recent Graduate Alumni Association and events like the Wealth Building Session for alumni.

Growth and Reflection

While enrolled, Daza earned an internship at Andersen Tax through their partnership with USF. After graduating, Daza secured a role as a financial markets and real estate associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) where she specializes in private equity and credit. Daza credits her post-graduate success to the support she received through the Priscilla A. Scotlan Career Services Center, which provided resume reviews and alumni networking opportunities that helped her to build a network and gain career guidance.

Daza says that relationship-building and interpersonal communication skills were her most valuable attributes in landing her role at PwC, where she collaborates with teams across the globe.

Daza advises current students to lean into being adaptable, while she encourages graduates to be empathic, embrace change, and stay open in their careers and personal lives.
