It’s been such a rewarding experience to partner with USF and connect with talented, driven students who bring curiosity, heart, and a desire to make an impact. I also deeply value my genuine partnership with the Employer Relationships team, especially my long-standing relationships with Julia Hing and Stephanie Belfiore.

Now entering its third year, our Engineering Intern Program at Fastly has intentionally recruited USF students through our close partnership with your team. These interns were selected through a highly competitive process and they absolutely earned their spots. What stands out most is their professionalism, preparation, and eagerness to grow. Many come from first-generation backgrounds and bring unique perspectives that enrich our teams and reflect Fastly’s values.

Maleke Hanson
Maleke Hanson ’24

One incredible DON example is Maleke Hanson, a computer science major and part of our inaugural 2023 intern cohort. As an intern on our Security Data Services team, Maleke made immediate contributions, simplifying data flows through internal Kafka systems, improving production security, and enhancing developer and customer experiences through thoughtful, scalable solutions. His technical expertise and collaborative spirit left a lasting impression.

After graduation, Maleke returned to Fastly as a full-time Software Engineer and recently celebrated his one-year anniversary. But his impact hasn’t stopped at code, Maleke has become a true ambassador for our Early Career program, referring over 40 fellow USF Dons, resulting in multiple successful intern hires and now full-time engineers.

Hiring from USF has strengthened both our teams and our talent pipeline. These students are not only technically capable but incredibly coachable, values-driven, and community-minded. They don’t just meet the bar, they raise it.
