The Department of Hospitality Management (HM) is pleased to announce a unique and exciting opportunity for students to study on three continents over 3-semesters! It’s called the Global Hospitality Management Track (GHMT).

HM has partnered with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Hotel Management School Maastricht in The Netherlands to offer the Global Hospitality Management Track, available fall 2015. Students will spend the fall semester in Hong Kong, spring 2016 in The Netherlands, and then will complete the remainder of the program in San Francisco. USF HM students will study alongside students from the two participating universities for the duration of the three-semester Global Hospitality Management experience.

As hospitality management is a truly global industry, it is more important than ever for students to gain firsthand international experience. The GHMT provides an invaluable educational opportunity that will allow students to experience foreign cultures and gain a deep understanding of global issues, enabling hospitality management students to thrive in this global industry.

Currently, students majoring in HM elect a track in Hotel and Restaurant Management or Meeting and Event Management. The tracks help shape the required work experience component students need to graduate as a Hospitality Management major/minor. The GHMT provides a third option, which will be particularly attractive to students that desire to work for a multinational hospitality firm or in an international, gateway market.“Much of the growth taking place in the hospitality industry today is occurring outside of the United States. Consequently, hospitality management graduates need to understand the differences, as well as the similarities, in how hospitality businesses are financed, marketed, and operated in a variety of global settings,” states Michael Collins, Interim Chair of the HM department. “In addition, hospitality enterprises will continue to see an increase in the proportion of international travelers that they accommodate. The GHMT will provide participants with a better appreciation and understanding of the expectations and preferences of travelers from different cultural backgrounds.”
