In Living Color: USFers Painted Head to Toe in Holi Festival
USF students celebrate Holi by painting each other in colored powder on campus.
USF students coated each other with fistfuls of powdery violets, blues, and greens in the center of campus April 4, as they celebrated the Indian rites of spring festival Holi. Also known as the festival of colors, Holi is an ancient Hindu celebration and takes place just before the vernal equinox.
Students let the colored cornstarch fly, painting each other’s clothes, skin, and hair like brightly colored Easter eggs, during USF’s first-ever Holi celebration, organized by USF’s Indian Student Organization (ISO).
“It was so great to see students join in the fun, especially those just walking by who dropped whatever they were doing,” said Mudit Suebsukchareon ’14, president of ISO. “That’s really the spirit: love, frolic, music, laughter.”
Suebsukchareon hopes even more USFers take part next year and learn more about the Hindu celebration of spring and love.
