USF Students Tackle Super Bowl Tailgate Food Waste
When the Seahawks and Patriots square off in Santa Clara this Sunday, three USF students will be collecting surplus food from a tailgate party at the Cow Palace.
Daniela Zamora Huerta ’26, Erica Hui ’26, and Alyssa Rose Jose ’26 are members of the USF chapter of the Food Recovery Network, a nonprofit that recovers surplus food and donates it to organizations that share meals with neighbors.
“Last year, at the Super Bowl in New Orleans, the Food Recovery Network rescued more than 12,000 pounds of food from tailgate events,” said Jose.
This year, the Food Recovery Network, with the help of students and alumni from USF, San Francisco State, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, will recover extra food at Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Tailgate at the Cow Palace in Daly City. The food will be delivered to the Delancey Street Foundation in San Francisco and Samaritan House in San Mateo.
