A Feast of Generosity: USF's Thanksgiving Drive Success
The University of San Francisco’s Thanksgiving Food Drive has been a cherished tradition for 28 years. This year, organizations across campus went head-to-head to raise enough funds to feed over 100 families in the Western Addition and Tenderloin neighborhoods of San Francisco.
The Thanksgiving Food Drive began nearly three decades ago by the university’s original Alumni Board of Governors. Since then, the initiative has grown into a collaborative effort between alumni, faculty, staff, students, and community partners to demonstrate the university’s Jesuit values and spirit of philanthropy.
“Serving our community with our students and staff was a joyful uplifting start to my holiday season,” said Aparna Venkatesan, professor, department of physics and astronomy and co-director of the Tracy Seeley Center for Teaching Excellence. “It’s a moving reminder of why I am proud to teach here.”
In the two week campaign, generosity flew into action with 117 gifts from across campus, totaling over $8,000, which will help provide meals for over 120 families. A heartfelt congratulations goes to the winners, the Office of General Counsel who had the highest participation.
This year’s Thanksgiving Food Drive served as a powerful reminder of the collective strength and compassion within the USF community. Together, through acts of kindness and generosity, it is possible to empower positive change and spread hope to those in need.
