I have a bachelor's degree in Business Economics from UC Irvine, and while I do love and appreciate my current job, a couple of years ago I had this feeling I wanted to do more. I work in higher education administration advising students to pursue health profession graduate programs, including nursing. Through this process, I got inspired to explore if my advice to students could potentially be a path for me.
I never intended on becoming a clinical psychologist. I never intended on working in the psychological field. And I originally had no intention of attending the University of San Francisco or applying to one of its doctoral programs.
Congratulations are in order for 33 USF faculty members who were promoted, tenured, or both this month.
Sandy Tan is a current student in the USF Master Public Health program. Her story, in her own words, is a story of commitment to social justice in healthcare.
During the 2018 Summer, Dr. Horton-Deutsch was invited to the 25th Annual Health Professions Educators’ Summer Symposium to serve as their first Nurse Wizard. She was chosen as the Nurse Wizard in recognition of her leadership in the field of nursing and health sciences, her work in advancing human caring knowledge and clinical practice in nursing and health sciences, and her expertise in reflective practice, the theme of the 25th Annual Symposium.
Dr. Taryn Vian, Professor and Master of Public Health Program Director, led along with many reviewers a World Health Organization (WHO) report "Integrating a focus on anti-corruption, transparency, and accountability in health systems assessments."
For elderly Americans, falls are a major threat to independence. However, in many cases they are preventable – and USF’s own Dr. Janice Mark, DNP, FNP-BC, RN, is working to help spread essential knowledge of best practices through a CDC fellowship.
