Service Before Self
"Integrity first. Service before self. Excellence in all we do."
These core values of the U.S. Air Force were ingrained in Terrance Warner during his six years of service, which took him all over the world. They also played a role in his decision to attend USF. “While researching universities, I took special note of USF’s emphasis on both cura personalis (care for the whole person), and the importance of being men and women for others. Not only did those principles align closely with my own personal beliefs, but they also resonated with me as a result of my time spent in the Air Force, which has similar values.”
Working in Germany, Africa, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East transformed him as a person. “I was privileged to not only visit many unique countries, but to sink into their cultures and view the world from their citizens’ perspectives. Those opportunities altered the course of my life. I went from being determined to launch my own business with the goal of making as much money as possible, to wanting to use my time and my talents to make the world a better place for the people, and others like them, that I’d met during my time in the Air Force.”
With that goal in mind during his college application process, he was drawn to USF’s emphasis on service. Now a junior computer science major and media studies minor, he’s planning to use his education to develop new technologies — and in doing so, change the world from here.
