Scholars Experience
The Black Scholars Program is a four year cohort model. Scholars progress through the program as a single group (or cohort) of peers who enter USF together as first-year students and graduate four years later.

The Black Scholar Program at USF offers you countless opportunities to connect, grow, and engage with the Bay Area African American community.
Year One
Get to know USF and the Bay Area community. Join the Marshall-Riley Living-Learning Community and take required African American Studies coursework. Participate in monthly events, extracurriculars, and bonding activities, such as dinner with a Bay Area African American community member.
Year Two
Enhance your understanding of social justice issues, and solidify relationships with Bay Area community members. Match with a mentor, who will give you career and personal guidance. Take at least one class in African American Studies, such as African American history, sociology, literature, philosophy, or politics. Continue meeting for communal dinners once per semester.
Year Three
Strengthen your academic training and experience in your chosen career path. Engage with faculty members as research assistants and gain guidance on securing an internship. Take a course in African American Studies if you didn't your second year.
Year Four
Implement your education and training by taking a capstone course. Match with an incoming first-year scholar as a peer mentor. Share your knowledge with the next generation of leaders.
