Data Engineering Concentration
The Data Engineering Concentration extends the core MS-DSAI curriculum with a focus on designing and managing scalable data infrastructures. Students gain hands-on experience with modern cloud-based systems, building end-to-end data platforms that integrate data lakehouse architectures, open data catalogs, and real-time stream processing. The concentration prepares students to advance their skills as Data, AI and ML engineers to support large-scale analytics and AI applications across the entire data lifecycle.
How to Apply
Students enrolled in the MS-DSAI program have the option to add the Data Engineering concentration. Interested students should apply to the MS-DSAI program, complete their first semester, and by the end of intersession (end of January) make the choice to add the concentration.

The MS-DSAI prepares you to be a model builder, but the DE concentration pushes you to think about the plumbing under it all, and that was really valuable to me. My practicum challenged me to think about more than just models.”

Real World Immersion Beyond the Practicum
The Data Engineering concentration extends the MS-DSAI program by only one module (additional six weeks), with a total program time of 13.5 months. During the first part of summer, students complete their final MS-DSAI coursework while concurrently taking the first data engineering course. The second part of summer is dedicated to the remaining data engineering courses.
Courses meet twice a week at a convenient time that allows students to focus on their post-graduation job search, work part-time, or complete a project. International students have the option to do part-time work or an internship through Pre-Completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) while enrolled in the data engineering concentration.
