Moonhawk Kim

Biography
Moonhawk Kim is the manager of inquiry, evaluation, and research at San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). In close collaboration with the district's leadership, he drives the organizational learning and the strategic planning based on data and research. Prior to his current role, Moonhawk was the director of research practice partnerships and community engagement at UC Berkeley's School of Education, where he built up the infrastructure for practitioners at Oakland Unified School District and researchers and staff at UC Berkeley to engage in collaborative partnership projects to improve educational outcomes. Moonhawk initially entered the field of education at SFUSD, where he used social science to improve education for the nearly 50,000 children enrolled in the school district before transitioning to UC Berkeley.
Moonhawk also teaches data bootcamp, and data visualization, and introduction to R at the University of San Francisco. Before moving into the field of education, he was an assistant professor of political science at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and published widely in academic journals on the political economy of global trade. Moonhawk, a native Californian, earned his PhD from Stanford University and BA from University of California at Berkeley.
