Mark Dickson

Biography
Dr. Dickson has worked in intellectual property law for over 35 years in patent litigation, procurement, and licensing for an extensive range of technologies including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, plants, and electronics. He has a long history of bar activity, as a past chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Intellectual Property Law, former president of the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association, and current Chair of the main ABA Standing Committee on Publishing Oversight. After receiving his doctorate in chemistry, he attended law school while working in-house at Shell Oil Company. During law school, he was awarded a Congressional Science Fellowship by the American Chemical Society and worked on Capitol Hill for U.S. Representative Ed Zschau, California’s 12th District, and for the House Science & Technology Committee. Following law school, he clerked in Washington, DC for Circuit Judge Pauline Newman at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (with exclusive jurisdiction over patent appeals). Dr. Dickson is a former partner of several large international law firms and continues in solo practice focusing on licensing, portfolio development, and IP business strategy.
