Equipped to Lead and Succeed

Meet Andreas Jack Christiansen ’27

Dean's Scholarship Recipient

Where are you from and what is your background?
I was born in Nykøbing Falster, a small town in Denmark. After finishing high school there, I took a gap year and moved to Vancouver, Canada, where I worked as a ski instructor for five months, living and working alongside people from all over the world. I then returned to Denmark and moved to Aalborg, a city in northern Denmark, to pursue my Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering at Aalborg University, graduating in the summer of 2025. While completing my degree, I worked part-time as a frontend developer at CEGO, contributing to large-scale projects, building scalable web applications, and gaining hands-on experience collaborating in a professional tech environment. That same year, I moved to San Francisco to start my MS in Computer Science at the University of San Francisco, excited to learn, grow, and contribute to a vibrant tech community.

Why did you apply for this graduate program and decide to study at USF?
I applied to the MS in Computer Science at the University of San Francisco because it perfectly blends innovation, hands-on learning, and access to the vibrant tech community of Silicon Valley. I was excited by the small class sizes, which allow for close collaboration with faculty and peers, and the strong curriculum that provides opportunities to deepen my technical expertise. After working as a frontend developer at CEGO in Denmark, I knew I wanted a program where I could turn my passion for building real-world applications into deeper technical expertise, and USF felt like the perfect place to do that.

What impacts has the Dean's Scholarship had on your ability to further your studies?
The Dean’s Scholarship has had an incredible impact on my ability to pursue my studies. Financially, it has covered most of my tuition for the first year, allowing me to fully focus on learning, exploring new technologies, and engaging with the USF community without the pressure of a part-time job. Beyond the financial support, receiving this award has been a huge confidence boost, making me feel recognized, valued, and truly welcomed at USF. It has reinforced my motivation to excel academically and contribute to the university’s vibrant community.

What are your career ambitions?
My career ambition is to become a software engineer who builds innovative applications that make a real impact. Ever since I was a child, I have dreamed of contributing to one of the world’s leading tech companies, inspired by the idea of turning simple lines of code into tools that people use every day. This passion grew during my bachelor’s studies in Software Engineering at Aalborg University and through my work as a frontend developer at CEGO, where I contributed to large-scale, user-focused platforms and saw firsthand how technology can solve real problems. Looking ahead, I hope to work on projects that push the boundaries of software, continuously learn new skills, and collaborate with diverse teams, all while creating technologies that make a positive difference in people’s lives.

What is something unique or interesting about you?
Something unique about me is my love for adrenaline, adventure, and travel, which has taken me from my small hometown in Denmark to living in different cities around the world, from a gap year in Canada to now San Francisco in the U.S. I have always enjoyed new experiences, from riding motorcycles to skydiving. In my spare time, I love watching movies, and I spent six years working part-time in different cinemas back home, which gave me the chance to see a wide range of films and share that passion with others.
