Since reviving the roundtable in 2013, the Center for Asia Pacific Studies has hosted several luncheon for women who share an interest in the Pacific to meet, network, and learn more about Asian culture. This time, the University of San Francisco’s downtown campus at 101 Howard provided the perfect venue for professional women to join the Center for a lunch featuring Japanese bento boxes and the chance to learn about happiness in China from Georgetown University Sociology Department’s Professor Becky Hsu.

The meeting brought together familiar faces with new attendees interested in making connections with women who share an interest in the Asia Pacific. Prof. Hsu’s presentation based on her extensive research on what makes people happy in China at different stages in their lives sparked a lively conversation among attendees and reflection about their own lives. Melissa Dale, Executive Director of the Center, encouraged attendees to spread the word about group with their friends and colleagues as the Center hopes to hold meetings twice a year. Past meetings have included lunch and a private tour of the Asian Art Museum as well as talks on topics ranging from feng shui, to the Japanese imperial court, and women’s rights in China. Women interested in joining the group’s mailing list should contact the Center at centerasiapacific@usfca.edu.
