The Thacher Gallery at the University of San Francisco Presents Reorienting Towards Remembrance: 25th Thacher Art + Architecture Annual from May 3 to June 30, 2024

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 1, 2024) - The Thacher Gallery at the University of San Francisco (USF) presents Reorienting Towards Remembrance: 25th Thacher Art + Architecture Annual, highlighting notable student works from the Department of Arts and Architecture centered around a theme of revisiting memories and innermost moments. The exhibit is on view from May 3 to June 30, 2024.

An opening reception celebrating both the works and the artists will take place on May 3 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. in the Thacher Gallery. An awards ceremony will occur in McLaren 250 at 3:00 p.m.

How does living in harmony with our pasts impact our present experiences? The exhibition explores the ways personal memories form our identities and shape our sensitivity and relationship to the world. Ella Geronimo’s lola&me visits a relationship between material objects and memory, highlighting the intersections and similarities between a granddaughter and her late grandmother. In Yunseok Song’s photograph Nature’s Embrace, dappling light and shadow foliage frame a mysterious scene where nature gently embraces the human body. Jocelyn Wong’s vivid print Battle Royale explores intercultural memory reinterpreting a western tattoo design with a dynamic clash of creatures rendered in traditional east Asian styles.

The selected works were chosen by a panel of jurors, including Bay Area artist, curator, and archivist Angelica Rodriguez; artist and curator Bianca Bercial Garcia-Bayllo; artist and designer, Brian Singer/someguy; and performance artist Midori. The exhibition presents works from 46 artists within the department. It is curated by undergraduate students in the Thacher Gallery Practicum, taught by Lexygius Sanchez Calip.
