USF’s School of Management is one of the top schools in the country for MBA students who want to launch their own businesses, according to the latest rankings by U.S. News and World Report

USF ranked 22nd on U.S. News’ best MBA programs for entrepreneurship list.

“We have a very strong academic base and maintain connections with our entrepreneur alumni,” said Elizabeth Davis, dean of the School of Management, which offers an MBA as well as other graduate business degrees. “The strength of our network and our expertise is what’s given us this ranking.”

From theory to practice

The U.S. News recognition comes just seven months after Forbes ranked USF 19th among universities for entrepreneurialism.

Davis says the School of Management helps students develop practical skills, in addition to providing an academic and ethical foundation.

“We have practicums, we have a small business venture center where students can work with alumni on projects related to entrepreneurship, and there are a whole variety of outlets for moving from theory to practice,” she said.

This month, USF hosted a Tech4Good Startup Weekend for example — a three-day social innovation-themed competition that challenges students and local entrepreneurs to develop new business proposals.
