The University of San Francisco’s Thacher Gallery Presents ‘The Light Is Still On: The 23rd Thacher Art + Architecture Annual’

The exhibition will run from May 6 to June 26, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO (April 28, 2022) — The Thacher Gallery at the University of San Francisco (USF) is featuring artworks from undergraduate students exploring healing in ‘The Light Is Still On: The 23rd Thacher Art + Architecture Annual’, on view from May 6 to June 26, 2022. The exhibition presents works by 40 junior and senior majors and minors from USF’s Department of Art + Architecture. The featured works offer opportunities for reflection, as well as avenues for restoring ourselves, our communities, and the globe.

The Light Is Still On: The 23rd Thacher Art + Architecture Annual’ is presented by USF’s undergraduate Art History & Museum Studies Thacher Practicum class led by Nell Herbert. Exhibited artworks were selected by jurors Alicia Escott, Barnali Ghosh, Aileen Mangan, and Jordán Sandoval.

Healing is a constant journey with no linear path. By celebrating the diverse lives and unique artistic approaches of the University of San Francisco’s student artists, the 23rd Thacher Annual reminds us that the light is still on, despite the many hardships present in the world.

Through varied media and themes of the environment, introspection, and connection, students assert their honest emotions and approaches to the healing process. Lily Basting’s mixed media series Pinch, Pull, Press, addresses common insecurities around body image and the process of self-acceptance, while Jasper Shao’s photograph Driftwood comments on the human impact on the natural environment. Through her abstract ceramic clock, Flourish, Natalie Ng represents the process of healing old pains across time.

An in-person Award Ceremony and Opening Celebration will be held on Friday, May 6, from 3–4 p.m. at Fromm Hall on the USF campus. Visit the exhibit for more information.
