Fieldwork
Our field experience program pairs volunteer mentor teachers from local public and private schools with our students. The experience allows students to explore the teaching profession in greater depth by applying their course knowledge in practical settings. For many students, this is the highlight of their participation – developing connections with local schools, and reflecting on their professional goals and emerging teacher identity. Additional volunteer and employment opportunities in education are often available.
In my classroom, there were several students who would isolate themselves. Some wouldn’t take a seat during the entire class. I started building relationships with them and would work with them to complete assignments and labs. It was valuable to show them I was there to support them and work step by step to help them.”
