Physics, BS
The study of physics incorporates a variety of other disciplines and fields. The curriculum opens up multiple paths for subsequent development, including graduate studies in science (physics, astronomy, math, chemistry, biology, etc), engineering, medicine, law, and other fields.
The major in physics consists of a minimum core of physics and mathematics courses. It provides a rigorous background combined with maximum flexibility for students who have a strong interest in an additional field of study. The honors track is recommended for students choosing physics as their main professional field, or students planning to pursue graduate studies in physics or related fields.
The minor curricula — in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, and engineering physics — enhance career options for mathematics, computer science, chemistry, and biology majors.

Our Research
Our faculty engages in cutting-edge, award-winning research. Under this research, students gain hands-on experience through research opportunities and summer research internships in state-of-the-art labs and world-class observatories.
Student Clubs
Our physics students are invited to join the Society of Physics Students and the Astronomy Club. These organizations organize interactive field trips, social gatherings, and visit Bay Area science facilities.
Colloquium Series
The Physics and Astronomy Colloquia at the University of San Francisco are talks given by invited research scientists and industry professionals, on topics of current interest. The Physics Colloquium Series has been in place since 1994.
