Meet Your Instructor

Amanda Ford is an astronomer-turned-data scientist. She got her bachelors from Harvard University, her PhD from the University of Arizona, and did her postdoc at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Germany. Her astrophysics work combined observations from the Hubble Space Telescope with high-resolution computer simulations to better understand galaxy evolution. She has spent the past 10 years as a data scientist in Silicon Valley. She has worked at various startups, then at Google Maps and Commerce, and most recently served as the Data Program Manager for the San Francisco Mayor's Office of Innovation. She is also a fiction and non-fiction writer, currently pursuing an MFA in creative writing at the University of San Francisco.
