Teacher Residency Program

The USF/Jefferson Elementary School District (JESD) Teacher Residency program offers an opportunity to earn your California Teaching Credential while working in a small, community-focused local school district. You will teach alongside an experienced mentor teacher for a year while completing coursework toward your credential. You'll receive financial support to help cover the cost of tuition and hiring priority in JESD for the 2026-27 academic year.

All residents will be expected to teach in the district for two years once they complete their residency year. The residency program is designed to meet the teaching needs of the JESD community which aims to recruit math, science, and Kindergarten teachers. Additionally, JESD is committed to diversifying the JESD teaching community.

Earn While You Learn

Attend classes at JESD and USF while earning your credential. You'll become eligible to receive a stipend throughout the residency year. Upon completion of your credential, you will be eligible to complete a Master’s degree from USF’s Teacher Education Department the following year.

Teacher residents:

  • Can earn up to $25,000 for the year.
  • Receive a 35% discount on USF tuition.
  • Are eligible for stipends for travel and commuting.
