Biography

Jamal Anderson is a Special Assistant Attorney General at the California Department of Justice, where he serves as the Attorney General's legal and policy advisor on Public Safety, Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. Prior to working at the Department of Justice, Jamal served as an Assistant District Attorney in the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, where he handled Child Abuse and Sexual Assault cases and served as the office’s designated Hate Crimes prosecutor. Before joining the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, Jamal worked as a Senior Associate at the Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) in San Francisco, where his practice focused on representing and advising public agencies, conducting independent investigations, and assisting public agencies with police reform. Prior to joining RPLG, Jamal served as a Deputy District Attorney in the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office. Before becoming an attorney, Jamal worked for several Members of Congress in Washington, DC and served as Federal Affairs Advisor to the Mayor of Washington, DC. Jamal currently serves on the Board of Governors at the law school, and on the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area, Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF), and the Alice B. Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club.
