Marching with Pride: Highlights from USF's 2024 Pride Celebration

by Edgar Mendez, Office of Development Communications

On Sunday, June 30, San Francisco buzzed with excitement as nearly 100 students, alumni, faculty, and staff from the University of San Francisco gathered to celebrate Pride Month. This year, the theme for the 54th Annual San Francisco LGBTQ+ Pride Parade and Celebration was "BEACON OF LOVE."

The San Francisco Pride Parade is one of the largest LGBTQ+ celebrations in the world, bringing in nearly one million attendees from all over the world. This year’s parade brought over 200 parade contingents and exhibitors, and many community-run stages and venues.

The contingent wound through the heart of the city, dancing and cheering, their voices joining thousands in a chorus of love. Each step and each cheer, brought them as a part of something bigger—a movement towards equality.

Drew Esterline ’24 shared that he was proud to be marching with USF in the 2024 San Francisco Pride Parade “not only to support current USF LGBTQ students and alumni but to also show San Francisco and all of the world that the university is an open and welcoming community for all students from all walks of life.”

Below are some highlights from the celebration:

50+ USF pride t-shirts worn
63 Pride flags waved
10 Posters created

Each of these moments contributed to an unforgettable day at San Francisco Pride, where the University of San Francisco community came together to celebrate, honor, and uplift one another in a beautiful display of unity and love.
