In June 2020 the extraordinary the Kronos Performing Arts Association (KPAA) produced "The Symphony of Social Justice," a deeply moving 6-minute film addressing the moral emergency America faces in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Beautifully edited by Evan Neff, the film highlights an excerpt from "Peace Be Till," a magnificent original composition by Oakland-based composer Zachary Watkins commissioned by the KPAA to honor the relationship between Martin Luther King, Jr. and Clarence B. Jones. With heartbreaking power, "The Symphony of Social Justice" connects the legacy of Dr. King, and the voice of Dr. Jones, to the young people marching nonviolently to protest police violence now, and it highlights the spiritual and political lineage from the Black Freedom Movement of the 1950s and 1960s to the Movement for Black Lives today.
