School of Education's Journal Receives Human Rights Education Award

The UCCHRE Human Rights in Higher Education Award is the first international award of human rights education. It “recognizes an individual, organization, initiative, or publication for its outstanding contribution to human rights education.” The International Journal of Human Rights Education is joined by the Human Rights Education Review as 2021 inaugural award co-recipients.

As UCCHRE notes, "founded within a year of each other (2018 and 2017 respectively), the Human Rights Education Review and the International Journal of Human Rights Education mark the coming of age of human rights education as a scholarly field. Each provides an international forum for the exchange of research and experiences as well as a space for scholars, young and old, to reach the growing global audience for human rights education in both academia and the world of human rights activism."

Established in 2017 by USF students and faculty, the International Journal of Human Rights Education is an independent, double-blind, peer-reviewed, open-access, online journal dedicated to the examination of the theory, philosophy, research, and praxis central to the field of human rights education. The journal seeks to be a central location for critical thought in the field as it continues to expand. For almost a decade now, the School of Education, particularly our MA program in Human Rights Education, has been contributing to the evolving discourse and practice of Human Rights Education,” says Shabnam Koirala-Azad, dean of the School of Education. “IJHRE emerged from this commitment and reflects a beautiful collaboration between faculty, students, and alumni towards the generation and diffusion of new knowledge that is so relevant to this moment. I am thrilled by this well deserved recognition.”
